Reno is a 10-year-old Miniature Schnauzer/Toy Poodle mix (also known as a Schnoodle). He loves walks in the park, peanut butter, and playing catch. I rescued him from a shady pet store (that was probably a puppy mill) for my 20th birthday. He was four months old and immediately attached himself to me. I couldn't say no, despite the shocking condition of the place. Like many puppy mill dogs, Reno has had his share of health and behavior issues. At 10-years-old, he now only has 10 teeth because of bad gum genetics, has digestive issues, and dry skin. He's lived in both the suburbs and now the great city of Seattle, where he has to learn to tolerate other dogs and people.
Miyavi is a 5-year-old domestic short hair cat that I found in a trailer park as a kitten. It was later discovered that he was kicked out along with his mother and sisters shortly after being born because the owner of his mother did not understand proper pet care. Miyavi now lives a happy and flea-free life in Seattle, where he does not have to go outside unless he's being transported to the vet. He is allergic to chicken and afraid of strangers, but loves the laser pointer and kicker toys. He also likes to torment Reno.
For 5 years, Reno and Miyavi lived in separate residences due to the allergies of my parents, but now they live together with my husband and me. It took Reno some time to get used to having a cat for a brother and this blog will chronicle their lives together.
